San Antonio Family Law Blog

Too hot for family law litigation?

As our San Antonio weather continues to heat up, so do arguments among married and divorced couples. One common argument at this time of the year revolves around summer plans for the kids.

An attorney writing for the Huffington Post recently described a situation a client encountered after getting a divorce and sharing custody of her 10-year-old son.

As gender roles change, so does divorce

There's little doubt that when a person looks around San Antonio today, they see a city much different than the one that existed two, three or four decades ago. Not only is it much bigger and busier, but the culture here and across the nation has changed as well.

Gender roles have evolved over those years, and that evolution has forced substantial change in a number of areas, including divorce, child custody disputes and spousal maintenance.

Study: Bad marriage can lead to major depression

Few San Antonio readers are likely to be surprised by the findings of a new study on divorce which shows that bad marriages can lead to major depression.

The University of Michigan study tracked nearly 5,000 American adults for a decade to find out how the level of support they receive from their spouses affected their mental health.

Texas man accused of having two marriages, no divorces

If one wife is good, two wives are twice as nice. That's apparently what one Texas man was thinking while he was married to two different women at the same time.

The 38-year-old flight instructor maintained two homes and two marriages for two and a half years about 275 miles north of San Antonio. His first wife was recently granted a divorce, however.

Psychologist: Common divorce mistakes and how to avoid them

Our regular Bexar County family law blog readers know we share news items we come across that might be of use to people about to go through a divorce, currently going through one or who have recently experienced a divorce.

We recently ran across an article by psychologist Allison Pescosolido, who wrote about common divorce mistakes and how to avoid them.

Texas judge: Online divorce not a good idea

Among the millions of things you can buy online are pizza, books, a car, gold, ammo and a divorce. Well, you can't actually buy a San Antonio divorce online, but you can buy forms to fill out and file with a court.

While that might seem like a fast, easy and cheap way to get a divorce, it's most often a recipe for a disaster that could have lifelong consequences for participants.

Expert: Grandparents' role in divorce is to be supportive, neutral

When San Antonio parents get a divorce, the impact of that decision will be felt most powerfully by their children, but it will also likely affect friends, co-workers and grandparents.

A therapist with extensive experience as a grandparent (she's grandparent to 10 kids) says that in a divorce, the grandparents' home can be like a haven safe for the kids from the turmoil of their own home.

Caught in the middle of custody dispute, boy wants two worlds

The San Antonio Express-News recently ran an article about a boy caught between two worlds as part of a child custody dispute between his divorced parents.

The 12-year-old's father lives in Greece and his mother lives in the United States.

Deion Sanders prevails in Texas child custody dispute

Former football star Deion Sanders has recently prevailed in a handful of rulings in his contentious child custody, property division and prenuptial agreement disputes with estranged wife Pilar Sanders.

A Texas courtroom has seen the former football and baseball standout awarded sole custody and conservatorship of the couple's two sons, 13 and 11 years old, and shared custody of their nine-year-old daughter.

Big news: Texas's 'Little Couple' adopts son

They're the biggest little TV stars in Texas: Dr. Jennifer Arnold and her husband, Bill Klein. The stars of TLC's "The Little Couple" recently announced the adoption of a three-year-old boy who, like his new mom and dad, has a form of dwarfism.

The reality TV celebrities said their adopted son is from China.
